Jiangsu Grand Theatre: The secret of wall sound insulation

Jiangsu Grand Theater is located in No.181, Mengdu Street, Jianye District, Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, adjacent to Hexi Central Business District and Nanjing Olympic Sports Center in the east, jiangxinzhou and the Yangtze River in the west, and jiangbei New Area across the river. It is the largest modern grand theater in China and the largest theater complex in Asia.
Jiangsu Grand Theater covers an area of about 200,000 square meters, with a total construction area of 270,000 square meters, including opera hall, drama hall, concert hall, variety hall, lecture hall and ancillary facilities to meet the functional needs of opera, dance drama, drama, traditional Chinese opera, symphony, quyi and large-scale variety shows.

In June 2018, Jiangsu Grand Theater was awarded the 2017 Jiangsu Provincial Construction Industry New Technology Application Demonstration Project.
Jiangsu Grand Theater is designed by East China Architectural Design and Research Institute. The design purpose comes from "water", which is consistent with the regional characteristics of "landscape city forest" in Nanjing. Due to its proximity to the Yangtze River, it also expresses the concept of "water charm in Jiangsu" and "confluence into a river". The overall design of Jiangsu Grand Theater is in the shape of "lotus leaf water droplets". Four "water droplets" tilt toward the center at the top, presenting a petal-like texture on the building roof, creating an effect like rolling "water droplets" on the "lotus leaf".
The four drops are the four functional areas of jiangsu Grand Theater, including opera hall, drama hall, music hall, variety hall and so on. To match the two striking red arches of nanjing Olympic Sports Center, the color of "water drop" of Jiangsu Grand Theater is blue and white gradient, which also represents the stripes of Nanjing Yuhua stone.
The walls of Jiangsu Grand Theater adopt the sound insulation mode of "20+10+20". The walls are 20 cm thick on each side, and the space with a thickness of 10 cm in the middle is filled with sound insulation materials, so the total thickness is 50 cm. The sound insulation effect reaches 65 decibels, equivalent to the sound intensity of ordinary road junctions.
